DEEPWATER HORIZON
As Graphics Supervisor at Warner Bros, I worked closely with the production designer and actual drill teams to ensure the film’s technology was as authentic as possible. I traveled to Louisiana to collaborate directly with experts on oil rig systems, studying real drill software and control room operations to translate their complexity into cinematic yet accurate screen graphics.
Our team designed and programmed all of the live playback systems used on set. This included the rig’s drilling interfaces, operational command displays, monitoring systems, and other specialized tech across the main rig environments. Every display was built to run in-camera, giving the cast real, functioning systems to interact with and grounding the performances in a believable, high-stakes environment.
The project required balancing technical accuracy with cinematic clarity, ensuring that complex drilling software could be understood visually by audiences without losing realism. By working directly with drill technicians and production design, we delivered graphics that not only supported the story but also honored the real-world technology and people behind it.
