INTERSTELLAR

INTERSTELLAR

As Video Graphics Supervisor at Warner Bros. Production Sound & Video, I collaborated with the production team to establish the initial visual language for Interstellar, grounding space exploration in both realism and emotional resonance. I designed and animated the on-set video graphics for the Endurance, Ranger, and Lander spacecraft, as well as the interface for T.A.R.S. Every element was crafted to feel functional, believable, and fully integrated into the practical sets, supporting Christopher Nolan’s vision of a near-future rooted in science.

All graphics were built to run live and interactively in-camera, allowing actors to engage directly with interfaces in real time. This eliminated the need for post-production replacements while ensuring that visuals were responsive to the action in each scene. The Ranger required over 24 integrated screens, the Lander more than 15, and the Endurance over 40, each designed to function practically on set. T.A.R.S.’ interactive displays were embedded into iPads that could be swapped seamlessly without interfering with the puppeteer’s performance.

The film’s unique production environments created significant technical challenges. Ship sets were mounted on massive gimbals or constructed vertically to simulate zero gravity, requiring playback systems and wiring that could flex and remain stable under constant motion. Inside Dr. Mann’s pod, filmed in an active industrial freezer, equipment routinely froze and failed—demanding custom insulation and heating solutions to keep systems running. Despite these extreme conditions, every display remained responsive, believable, and cinematic, allowing Nolan to capture the performances and environments entirely in-camera.
